The Top 50 Fan Photos of 2018

#45 -Tammy Thomas‎

Lucky is the photographer that gets herself into this situation. A bunch of factors have to align—temperature, humidity, dew point, pressure, wind or lack of it. I spent my entire childhood on the frozen tundra and I’ve never seen a bubble frozen like this. (A friend of mine back in North Dakota teaches grade school and he said one of the high points of the whole year was taking his kids outside when it was 35 below zero and letting them freeze some bubbles. Unforgettable, he and they said.) The other factor that needs to happen is someone needs to know what to do with their camera to turn this little bit of frozen water into crystalline art. Notice how important that dark background is. And then to have it blooming from that dried weed completely takes it over the top. Spectacular photograph!

Update: There’s more to it than I let one here. Several people came forward to explain the tips of tricks of Frozen bubble photography. Here’s a link.
