#38 – Jannie Van Der Haar
First of all, I would like to know how Jannie rigged up the camera on the dashboard of the old Cadillac. (I ruled out the possibility that she’s actually riding on the hood of the car. I don’t think so—it’s possible, but I don’t think so.) But seriously, soak up the joy of a grandparenthood. Look at those two faces in the corners! It goes without saying that I don’t need to mention the face in the middle of the picture. But wow, what a great grandparent photograph. I did put an edit on it to make it even more powerful. For me, editing often means directing the eyes of the viewer and I do that with brightness and darkness. I wanted the viewer’s eyes to go to that little girl in the middle so I brightened up her face. And then, I darkened those bottom corners of the dash to make them less distracting. I also brightened up the faces of “opa and oma” to drive those smiles home. This is simply a wonderful photograph. Totally love it.
